Nathan came out and walked on the roof to take exact measurements and when I asked if they could remove my defunct chimney he said it was not a problem. He brought me a sample book of shingle colors and also gave me a quote for gutter guards. Very polite !

What sets Premier Exterior apart?

You meet the person who stands behind the work. Nathan walks your house with you, answers your questions, and stays with the job until it’s done right.

He’s also a licensed Virginia home inspector, so he looks past the siding. You’ll hear what he sees with the flashing, the trim, and the roofline, even if that’s not what you called about.

Our crew brings more than 40 years of combined experience to your house. We’re family-owned and based right here in Thaxton, so we’re easy to reach after the job’s done.

Crew installing siding

What happens after I call?

  1. We come out and look. We walk the outside of your house with you and point out what we see.
  2. You see it before you buy it. We show you a 3D visual on site so you can compare materials and colors on your own house.
  3. You get it in writing. You get a written estimate with the scope spelled out.
  4. We handle the permits. If your job needs a permit, we pull it.
  5. The crew does the work and cleans up. You only need to be home for window jobs.
  6. We walk it together at the end. Nothing’s done until you’ve seen it.

Your materials carry the manufacturer warranty, and our workmanship is covered too.

What we build and fix

Siding is most of what we do, so it gets most of the room here. We also handle the roof, windows, gutters, and deck around it.

James Hardie siding installation in Franklin County, VA
Key service

James Hardie Siding Installation

James Hardie fiber cement is the siding people ask us about by name. We install HardiePlank, HardiePanel, HardieShingle, and HardieTrim. It costs more than vinyl up front. In return, it resists rot and won’t feed a fire the way real wood can. Here’s how our James Hardie siding installation works, start to finish.

LP SmartSide Installation

LP SmartSide is engineered wood siding. You get the look of real wood grain on a board built to resist rot and termites. It’s lighter than fiber cement, and long boards mean fewer seams. Weighing it against Hardie? We’ll lay out the tradeoffs on your house. Start with our LP SmartSide installation guide.

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is the value pick. New vinyl comes in far more colors and styles than the faded panels on many older homes, and it doesn’t need painting. Insulated vinyl adds a foam backing for a flatter, sturdier wall. See your options for vinyl siding on homes in Bedford County and Roanoke.

Siding Repair

Not every siding problem needs a whole new house of siding. A panel cracked in a storm or a soft spot near the gutters can often be fixed on its own. We’ll tell you straight when a repair makes sense. The thing to catch early is water behind the siding. See how siding repair works.

Gutter Cleaning Service

Gutters carry water away from your siding and foundation. When they clog or sag, water lands right where it does the most damage. A good deck adds living space without adding a room. We build custom decks in wood and in Trex and TimberTech composite, and we repair or replace decks that have gone soft. Composite costs more up front but doesn’t need staining. See our work as a deck builder in Daleville and Bedford County.

How do I pick the right siding for my house?

If your siding is tired, the next question is what to put up instead. As a siding contractor based in Thaxton, we install all three of the common choices, so we have no reason to push one. Here’s the plain version.

Vinyl

Cost: the lowest of the three up front.

Upkeep: no painting. Wash it now and then.

Good fit: getting the most new exterior for your money. Insulated vinyl makes a flatter, sturdier wall.

Fiber cement (James Hardie)

Cost: the highest up front.

Upkeep: holds up well, but may need repainting down the road.

Good fit: homes you plan to stay in. It resists rot and won’t feed a fire the way real wood can.

Engineered wood (LP SmartSide)

Cost: often between the other two.

Upkeep: keep the paint in good shape.

Good fit: the look of real wood grain on a board built to resist rot and termites.

Signs it’s time for new siding

  • Panels that are faded, chalky, or look washed out on the sunny side
  • Cracks, warping, or pieces that rattle loose in the wind
  • Soft spots, especially near the ground or under the gutters
  • Peeling paint on the trim, or stains on inside walls

What’s under the siding matters too

New siding is only as good as what’s behind it. When the old siding comes off, we look at the wall underneath, put up fresh house wrap, and flash around windows and doors so water runs out, not in. Humid summers, strong storms, and freeze-thaw winters here are hard on a rushed install. Done right, the job is done once.

How much does new siding cost in Southwest Virginia?

Every house is different, so we don’t post one price. What moves the price most is the size of the house, the material you pick, how much old siding has to come off, and whether there’s damage underneath. Trim, soffit, and fascia add to it. The only way to get your number is a free estimate, and we put it in writing.

My house took storm damage. What happens with insurance?

After a storm, we come out, inspect the damage, and document it with photos. We’ll tell you plainly whether we think the storm caused it. We write a detailed estimate and scope of work, and we can be there when your adjuster comes out to answer questions about our estimate. Your insurance company decides what your policy covers. If the roof is open, we can tarp it so your home stays dry in the meantime.

Questions we hear a lot

How much does new siding cost?

It depends on the size of your house, the material, and what’s under the old siding. We give free estimates in writing, so you know your number before you decide.

Do you install James Hardie siding?

Yes. We install James Hardie products, including HardiePlank, HardiePanel, HardieShingle, and HardieTrim. We also install LP SmartSide, vinyl, and insulated vinyl.

Should I repair my siding or replace it?

If the damage is limited to a few panels and there’s no water behind them, a repair usually makes sense. If the siding is old, faded all over, or soft in several places, replacement is often the better money. We’ll tell you which one we’d do on your house.

Can you help me pick a color?

Yes. We help you choose materials and colors, and we show you a 3D visual on site so you can see it on your own house first.

Do I need to be home while you work?

Only for window jobs. For siding, roofing, gutters, and decks, you don’t need to be home.

Are you licensed?

Yes. We’re a licensed Virginia Class B contractor, license #2705199374.

Can you help with a storm damage insurance claim?

We inspect and document the damage, write a detailed estimate, and can meet your adjuster on site to answer questions about our estimate. Your insurance company decides what’s covered.

What warranty comes with the work?

Your materials carry the manufacturer warranty.

What areas do you serve?

We’re based in Thaxton and work across Bedford County, Smith Mountain Lake, Roanoke, Salem, Lynchburg, and nearby towns in Southwest Virginia.
